My Long Winter is Over

Thu May 01, 2008 at 01:41:04 PM PDT

Today, I got up from my computer for awhile.  I turned my phone off.  I went outside.

I stepped away from superdelegates, Gas Tax Holidays, Florida and Michigan, and a host of other real or unreal issues that have been drumming their way across this and other news outlets.

I put pastors, ministers, reverends, priests, rabbis and immams of all stripes behind me, and I grabbed my fly rod.

Quinnipiac University Poll - Obama Narrows Lead in PA

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 11:25:12 AM PDT

Just saw this:

In the just released Quinnipiac University Poll, Clinton draws 50 percent of support from likely Democratic voters in the state while Obama gets 41 percent. In a similar poll taken two weeks ago, Clinton was at 53 percent and Obama was at 41 percent.

Nice to see all the polls trending for Obama (me being an unabashed Obama supporter), and to see it within the single digit range as well.

Owning my Racism - Adoption in America

Tue Mar 18, 2008 at 12:19:28 PM PDT

I am a white man, and have enjoyed the privilege of being a white man in this country.  I attended a mostly white public school system in a mid-sized mostly white city.  There were two african american families in my high school.

I attended a small liberal arts college with a small but vocal african american community.

I work for a software company that is mostly white, and male.

And I live in a mostly white suburb of a mostly white city.

And I have denied, for most of my life, that I am a racist.

Today, after listening to Barack Obama, I admit I am.

Army Reservists Who Refused Orders Might Be Punished

Tue Nov 16, 2004 at 11:36:19 AM PDT

According to this CNN article the Army Reservists who refused orders to drive fuel trucks with (allegedly?) contaminated fuel from South Iraq to a base north of Baghdad will likely receive punishment.

The 13th Corps Support Command CO, Brig. General James E. Chambers, ordered two investigations:  one which examined the soldiers refusal of their orders, and the other to determine if the vehicles the soldiers were supposed to drive were fit for duty or not.

Voter Alert Line Calls: PA, FL Hotbeds For Alerts

Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 09:03:10 AM PDT

I didn't see this in a diary yet, but maybe I just missed it:

Voter Alert Line Calls - State by State

If this is any indication of what's going on, it appears Florida and PA are the hotbeds.  South Carolina showing up as a high volume state is puzzling to me, as well as DC.

101st Commander: No Idea Al QaQaa Was Munitions Site

Wed Oct 27, 2004 at 08:17:38 AM PDT

Forgive me if this has been posted in a diary.  A routine (and brief) search didn't turn it up, so I thought I'd post.

Over at the NY Times they have interviewed the officer in charge of the 2nd Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division during the invasion of Iraq.

The officer, Colonel Joseph Anderson, not only reaffirmed the NBC embedded reporter's recollection that 101st forces did not search the facility, but he went on to say that he didn't even know it was a munitions facility until this week.
